The CEREC (CAD/CAM Technology) system requires a unique set of Assistant skills that will be needed while working in a practice that utilizes the CEREC system.  Assistants in a CEREC practice may have responsibilties for:

  • Applying the opaquing powder used for taking the optical impressions
  • Setting up the CEREC Acquisition Unit for acquiring the optical impressions
  • Taking the optical impressions of the patient's prepared tooth, or teeth
  • Determining the ceramic block size and color shade to match the patient's adjacent teeth
  • Setting up the CEREC Milling Unit for milling the ceramic restoration
  • Initiating the milling process from the CEREC Acquisition Unit
  • Advanced and experienced CEREC Assistants may also have responsibility for designing the restoration on the Acquisition Unit
  • Preparing the milled restoration and prepared tooth for seating into the patient's mouth

                                                          

All these skills will be taught by Dr. Stanfield utilizing her CEREC Acquisition and Milling Units.  Dr. Stanfield has been using the CEREC system for over 8 years, and has produced thousands of CEREC restorations. 

Each student will complete the process from powdering and acquiring optical impressions through designing and  milling, then final preparation and polishing of the ceramic restoration.

Upon completion of this advanced (optional) one Saturday training module, the student will be qualified to apply for a Dental Assistant position in a CEREC practice, the most advanced technology in cosmetic dentistry.
